BACKYARD WEDDING

Sometimes there are people in this world who are just meant to be together.

I believe Joe and Abby are two of them.

Some ceremonies particularly resonate with me, and I feel so lucky to have been part of this one. Originally planning to be married in Auckland, Joe and Abby postponed their ‘big shindig’ due to Covid-19. Abby’s mum, Tania, spoke to me afterwards and we both agreed - stripped back to a close-knit group of loved ones in a beautifully intimate setting, the ceremony was exactly what it needed to be. It was the perfect balance of ‘backyard wedding’ and 'simple elegance’. The laid-back comfort of home paired with gorgeous flowers, stunning outfits and the perfect soundtrack achieved just the right tone to celebrate such a special milestone.

From the moment Tania walked down the aisle, tears were flowing… and there was a collective gasp when Abby entered with her brother. She looked stunning.

A wedding day is often a day when couples miss family members no longer with them. There was one particularly important person who couldn’t be there to celebrate, and we made special mention of Abby’s dad, Terry.

Joe honoured their journey in his vows - “In the last 6 years we have shared in moments of tremendous joy and incredible heartache. Every moment that we have shared has helped us to lean on each other, and this has ensured that our bond has grown and I know that it will continue to grow stronger with each passing day.”

Abby shared her love, too - “Knowing that you are always there to back me up, to calm me down and be a voice of reason is the best thing I could ask for. You are my cheerleader, encouraging me to take leaps and chase my dreams when I am wavering on the edge of doubt. You strengthen my weaknesses, and bring focus to my dreams.  You tell me every day that you love me. I am different, because of you. I am confident and resilient; I am optimistic and joyful and I look forward to our next adventure with baited breath – because I know that there will always be adventures ahead of us. We have so many dreams to conquer, and with you I feel like they are all possible.”
